Title: I wear a white rose - Songs from Vogatsiko Kastoria Recordings 1965 & 1980 The songs included here were recorded in 1965 by John Anninos and Markos Dragoumis for the collection of the Melpo Merlie Music Folkfore Archive in Athens. The mission was supported in many ways by J.Mazarakis then the governor of the Kastoria prefecture. The fact that Vogatsiko from the 18th century onwards, was in close contact with various large cities, such as Salonica and Constantinople, has influenced the style of its music. The village of Vogatsiko which is rich in historical background the name of the village most probably derives from the Turkish word "Bogaz - kioi" which means "the village of bougazi" due to the particular location of its first settlements.
