Title: Greek traditional melodies for piano
Author: Dimitris Pirghiotis
Publlsher: Fagotto books
The widely familiar traditional Greek music, at the level of the collective musical life, continues, as proven, to be an źunknown land╗ at the level of the formal educational practice. The driving force of these editions is to supply the new musicians, who are in the initial learning phase of the instrument, with this sort of material, which will allow them to practice the rhythms and melody of the traditional music art. The fertilization of musical fantasy is the constant objective. Basic elements of these arrangements are:
(1)the adoption of unadorned version of the melody.
(2)the intonation of the monophonic texture.
(3)the effective constriction of the harmonic movement, given the fact of rich harmony being źalien╗ to the traditional tone.
(4)the balanced succession of the melody¢s phrases between the two hands, as well as the suggestion of recommended fingering.
The unifying spirit beyond the arrangements is the wish to reduce the influence of contemporary harmony filter, allowing this way the traditional tone to emerge.
