The vocal group the Gladiators, in particular, helps shape the album's sound with sweet, lilting harmonies that recall early rocksteady and the nostalgic ring of American doo-wop. This is contrasted with Robinson's dub-influenced studio effects (which favor echo and reverb), and Sly & Robbie's deep, shifting rhythms.
