Title: Gus Gadinis - Greek Clarinet in The USA Type: CD Label: Afoi Falirea Code: 420 Release date: 1998 Gadinis was the single most significant clarinet virtuoso among Greeks in the States. His repertoire included Greek mainland folk songs, songs of the Asia Minor tradition (Smyrneika) and popular tunes of his time. He played on six different clarinets. In 1926, Benny Goodman saw one of his performances and was stunned by his abilities. He gave him the nickname “The Greek Benny Goodman”. Following this incident, Gadinis started recording for US record companies (mainly RCA-Victor and Columbia). This album includes 16 tracks from 78 rpm discs recorded back then. By sound restoration we have achieved a sound quality of contemporary standards.
